How To Replace Google Pixel 8 Battery
Follow these step-by-step instructions to solve the battery problems of your Google Pixel 8:
Step 1 Gather Mobile Repairing Tools
Gather all these necessary mobile repairing tools to disassemble your Google Pixel 8:
- Hot Air Gun or Hair Dryer or Hot Plate
- Suction Cup
- SIM Card Tray ejection tool
- A plastic opening pick
- A set of screwdrivers (Phillips or Torx)
- A spudger or prying tool
- A pair of tweezers
- Cotton bud
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Clean Cotton Cloth
- New Google Pixel 8 Battery
Step 2 Switch Off The Google Pixel 8
Unplug all the cables from your Pixel 8 to turn it off by following these few steps:
- Press the power button and volume up simultaneously
- Wait for a while
- A power menu will pop up on the screen
- Select the power-off option to turn off your Google Pixel 8.
Step 3 Eject The SIM Card Tray
- Locate a tiny hole near the SIM Card Tray.
- Enter the SIM ejection tool into the hole.
- Push the ejecting tool inside the hole.
- The SIM Tray will partially pop out.
- Use your fingers to remove it.
- Keep it aside in a safe place.
Step 4 Heat Your Google Pixel 8
- Take a hot air gun or a hair dryer. You can also take a hot plate.
- Adjust the medium heat settings on the hot air gun or hair dryer.
- Heat all the four sides of the phone for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep the hot air gun or hair dryer 5 to 10 cm away from your Pixel 8.
- You can also use a hot plate to heat the phone for 60 to 90 seconds.
- Do not overheat the phone as too much heat can damage the internal components of your Pixel 8.
Step 5 Apply A Suction Cup
- Take a suction cup.
- Fix the suction cup at the bottom edge of the phone’s screen.
- Firmly hold the suction cup handle.
- Gently pull the suction cup handle.
- A gap will form between the screen and the phone frame.
Step 6 Insert An Opening Pick
- Take a plastic opening tool pick.
- Mark 3mm on the opening pick with the help of a meter rule.
- Insert the opening pick in the gap up to 3mm into the gap between the screen and phone frame.
- After inserting the pick, detach the suction cup from the screen.
Step 7 Cut the Bottom Adhesive
- Hold the pick in your fingers.
- Move the opening pick from the lower right edge of the phone to the lower left edge.
- Repeat this step twice to cut the bottom adhesive glue.
Step 8 Cut Left Adhesive
- Slide the plastic pick or tool from the lower left to the upper left corner of your Pixel 8.
- Repeat this pick movement twice or thrice to slice the left adhesive.
- Do not insert the pick over 3mm on the left side because the screen cable is on the left side.
Step 9 Cut Through The Upper Adhesive
- Keep moving the plastic pick or tool from the upper left to the upper right corner to slice the upper edge adhesive.
Step 10 Slice Right Side Adhesive
- Now slide the plastic pick from the phone’s upper right to the lower right corner.
- Repeat this sliding motion twice or thrice to cut the right side adhesive.
Step 11 Open The Screen
- Hold the screen cover from the top and bottom edge.
- Open the screen of your Pixel 8 like a book from the right side.
Step 12 Remove The Screen Cable Cover
- Keep the screen in an upright position.
- Pry up the screen cable cover with a spudger or prying tool.
Step 13 Disconnect The Screen
- Unclip the screen press connector with a spudger or prying tool.
Step 14 Remove The Screen
- After disconnecting the screen press connector, and remove the screen.
- Keep the screen in a safe place.
Step 15 Remove The Plastic Buffer
- There is a black plastic buffer near the bottom edge of your phone.
- Pry up the plastic buffer with a spudger or opening pick.
- Now, peel off the black plastic buffer with the help of your fingers or tweezers.
Step 16 Unfasten The USB-C Port Bracket
- Take a screwdriver to unscrew the two 5 mm long screws of the USB-C Port Bracket.
- Keep them in a safe place as you will need these screws while reassembling your Pixel 8.
Step 17 Remove The USB-C Port Bracket
- Remove the USB- C Port Bracket with your fingers or tweezers.
Step 18 Disconnect And Remove The 5G mmWave Antenna
- Unclip the 5G mmWave antenna cable press connector to disconnect it from the logic board.
- Always remember strong glue is present at the 5G mmWave Antenna Cable of your Pixel 8.
- Heat the Antenna Cable for 2 to 3 minutes with a hot air gun or hair dryer.
- Heat will melt the adhesive.
- Slice the adhesive with an opening pick.
- Move the antenna cable so it will not come in the way during the disassembly of the battery.
Important Tip
If your phone doesn't have a 5G mmWave antenna skip this step.
Step 19 Remove The Graphite Black Sheet
- Insert the opening pick or spudger under the upper right corner of the black graphite sheet.
- Gently lift the graphite sheet.
- Hold the right corner of the black graphite sheet.
- Peel off the black graphite sheet.
Important Tip
You have to replace the graphite sheet while reassembling your Pixel 8.
Step 20 Unfasten The Midframe
- Unscrew the eight 5.1mm long screws of the midframe.
- Keep these screws separate from other screws to avoid accidentally mixing up all the screws.
Step 21 Remove The Midframe
- Pry up the Midframe with an opening pick or spudger.
- Remove the midframe from its recess.
Step 22 Disconnect The Battery
- Unclip the battery's press connector with a spudger to disconnect the battery from the logic board.
Step 23 Heat The Phone Rear
- Adhesive glue secures the top and bottom edge of the battery to the phone frame.
- Heat the back of the phone with a hot gun or hair dryer to melt the adhesive.
- Now, you can easily remove the battery.
Step 24 Apply Isopropyl Alcohol
- Peel the black tape present on the battery.
- Take Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Pour 2 to 3 drops of isopropyl alcohol (>90%) along the right side of the Pixel 8 battery.
- Lift your phone from the right side.
- Keep the phone up from the right side until the isopropyl alcohol flows to the left side of the battery.
- Wait for at least 2 minutes.
- Isopropyl Alcohol will melt the battery adhesive.
Step 25 Separate The Battery Adhesive
- Insert an opening pick or spudger in the gap between the right side of the battery and the phone frame.
Step 26 Separate The Battery
- Pry up the battery from its recess.
- Remove the battery.
Step 27 Install The New Battery
- Install the new battery into its recess.
Step 28 Reassembly Of The Pixel 8
- To reassemble your Google Pixel 8, follow the above steps in reverse order.
- Reconnect all the components and tighten up all the screws.
- Dip a cotton bud into the isopropyl alcohol.
- Rub this cotton bud around the edges of the phone frame and screen.
- Isopropyl Alcohol will melt the old adhesive around the edges of the phone frame and screen.
- Apply new adhesive around the edges of the phone frame.
- Reconnect the screen to the phone.
- Carefully attach the screen to the phone frame.
